I Can Drive

As someone who grew up in the Midwest. I can drive in the snow, rain, wind, whatever. Weather doesn’t bother me when it comes to driving. I once drove to a birth while a tornado was touching down a few miles away from me and rain was pouring. When duty calls… That all being said. I feel comfortable driving. With the recent polar vortex storm that came through the U.S. Many cities and some whole states have been shutting down and declaring “emergency conditions”, shutting down non-essential travel. Crazy right!!

It made me think about how to me, 4-8 inches of snow, slippery roads, rain causing low visibility; these are all things that I know how to navigate. I am able to move about my day with reasonable caution but continue on to where I need to be. Others can’t.

What about in other aspects of our lives? What are some of the things that we are able to navigate smoothly and with confidence, taking into account reasonable risks with caution. That others would panic over. How often are we taking this confidence for granted?

I challenge you to find an aspect in your life that you are able to navigate with confidence and reasonable caution, something that others may not be so comfortable with. Even something as simple as “I can help my children navigate their tantrums without making it worse”. Or “I can cook 2 different dishes at the same time without messing up the recipe or burning anything”. Or maybe even just “I can sit with the hard things about life and not allow them to overcome me”. What’s something you’re good at? And lets work on celebrating those things, especially as the days get colder.
