Regular Seats
Something my dad did with us as kids was designating our “regular seats”. We always sat in the same seats in the car, with few exceptions. My seat was middle row (3 row car) passenger side. Always. “Regular seats” is something that I’ve started with my own kids. Of course, with 3 of the 4 being in car seats that affect the current set up, but regardless…
The 2 older boys (8 and 3.5) sit in the 3rd row, the 8-year-old is large enough to ride without a booster, and the 3.5-year-old is large enough to be in a booster that the 8-year-old can help him buckle. 2 littles (2.5 and 7 months) are in a infant car seat (the kind that clicks in and out) and a forward facing 5-point restraint style car seat. The 2 littles need me to buckle them and carry them in and out, so they’re in the middle row. That’s our “regular seats”, few exceptions.
Having “regular seats” helps with reducing fighting over spots and the “best” spot. There’s more organized chaos that happens when it’s time to get in the car. Everyone knows exactly where they need to go and there’s less thinking and directing that has to happen. And as a mom of 4, the fewer monotonous directions I have to give the better!
